The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, AC Occupational Therapy, is seeking an enthusiastic colleague to temporarily join the occupational therapy team at the NMRC on the Gasthuisberg campus.

The Neuromuscular Reference Center provides specialized rehabilitation to patients with complex neurological conditions in an outpatient setting.

As part of the multidisciplinary team, the occupational therapist focuses on screening patients’ motor, cognitive, and functional skills. Based on this assessment, recommendations are provided to promote their independence, participation, and quality of life at home and in the community.
The wide range of occupational therapy needs makes this a challenging and fascinating patient population.

This is a fixed-term position, through the end of December 2026, with a 60% work schedule.

How do you push boundaries?
As a member of a multidisciplinary team, you will primarily work with the target group mentioned above.
You have a strong interest in neurological conditions.
You will work as part of a team of occupational therapists and report regularly to the occupational therapy supervisor.
You collaborate with doctors, nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists, psychologists, social workers, and others, and you actively participate in team meetings.
As an occupational therapist, you work independently within the care program.
You analyze functional problems during a consultation and translate these into concrete recommendations and interventions.
You provide occupational therapy recommendations regarding activities of daily living, mobility, cognition, and participation.
You are jointly responsible for preparing and following up on files for the VAPH (Flemish Agency for Persons with Disabilities) and the VSB (Flemish Social Protection) regarding assistive devices, home modifications, and mobility aids.
Actively involving family members and informal caregivers is fundamental to this process.
You are willing to make occasional home visits.
What do you need for this role?
You hold a bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in occupational therapy.
You actively contribute to an innovative, evidence-based, clinical approach both within the occupational therapy department and within the care program.
You have knowledge of neurological conditions or are willing to acquire this knowledge in the near future.
You can work with patients in an outpatient setting and adapt flexibly to patient distribution and work schedules.
You have knowledge of the use of assistive devices, both in terms of providing advice and teaching patients how to use them.
You can assess the patient’s premorbid and current condition at the cognitive, motor, and skill levels.
You are patient-centered and can develop individualized recommendations based on the identified differences between the patient’s premorbid and current condition.
You are eager to learn and willing to pursue continuing education.
You have excellent communication skills.
You can work independently within a multidisciplinary team setting.
You have a basic knowledge of MS Office.
