Occupational Therapist - Pulmonology Inpatient Unit and Abdominal Transplant Unit

Push boundaries as an occupational therapist in the pulmonary medicine inpatient unit and the abdominal transplant program
The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, AC-Occupational Therapy, is seeking an enthusiastic colleague to join the occupational therapy team in the pulmonary medicine inpatient unit and the abdominal transplant program at the Gasthuisberg campus.

The Pulmonology Department specializes in the treatment of patients suffering from COPD, cystic fibrosis, infectious lung diseases, and respiratory oncological conditions.
Within the abdominal transplant program, patients receive support both before and after transplantation, with a focus on their independence and participation in society.
This is a chronic care population, and the occupational therapy needs vary greatly from patient to patient. This makes it a challenging patient group.

The teams look forward to welcoming an additional occupational therapist who can contribute to the further development of initiatives and care pathways, with the goal of enhancing the quality of patient care, both during hospitalization and in the outpatient setting.

This is a permanent position with a 60% work percentage and a temporary supplement of 35%.

How do you push boundaries?
As a member of a multidisciplinary team at the hospital, you will primarily work with the target groups mentioned above.
You have a strong interest in the care pathways for respiratory rehabilitation and abdominal transplantation.
You will collaborate with doctors, nurses, care assistants, occupational therapists, physical therapists, psychologists, social workers, and others, and you will actively participate in team meetings.
As an occupational therapist, you will work independently within the care program.
You work as part of a team of occupational therapists and report regularly to the head of occupational therapy.
You closely monitor how your patients are functioning and help prepare them for further rehabilitation or reintegration into their home environment.
You assess the patient’s condition in terms of cognitive, motor, and functional abilities.
You share responsibility for monitoring ADL and IADL tasks; advising on and testing assistive devices, accommodations, and energy-saving measures with the goal of increasing the patient’s independent functioning, participation, and well-being. Actively involving family members and informal caregivers is fundamental to this process.
You will take an active role in implementing a stimulating and engaging approach to patient care within the team.
Depending on the needs of the care program, you may be scheduled for varying shifts and weekend therapy sessions. Time off to recover from weekend work will be provided during the week.
What do you need for this role?
You hold a bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in occupational therapy.
You will actively contribute to an innovative, evidence-based, clinical approach both within the occupational therapy department and within the care program.
You have knowledge of the aforementioned clinical conditions or are willing to acquire this knowledge in the short term.
You are able to work with patients in both acute inpatient and outpatient settings and can adapt flexibly to patient caseloads and work schedules.
You have knowledge of the use of assistive devices, both in terms of providing advice and teaching patients how to use them.
You can assess the patient’s premorbid and current condition at the cognitive, motor, and skill levels.
You can evaluate the patient’s current condition using a structured assessment of ADL and IADL.
You can develop an individualized treatment plan based on the identified differences between the patient’s premorbid and current conditions.
You are eager to learn and willing to pursue continuing education.
You have excellent communication skills.
You can work independently within a multidisciplinary team.
You have a basic knowledge of MS Office.
A clean criminal record (Form 596-2) is required if this position involves contact with minors.
