Specialist Physician (M/F) in Hand and Peripheral Nerve Surgery and Microsurgery

Job Description:

a) General Objective
Under the supervision of the department head and the medical director, the surgeon will be involved in hand and peripheral nerve surgery both in the clinic and in the operating room.

b) Primary Responsibilities
• Elective and emergency consultations in hand surgery, peripheral nerve surgery, and microsurgery.
• Surgical procedures in this same field.
• Participation in on-call duties for hand surgery, peripheral nerve surgery, and microsurgery.

Duties and Responsibilities

a) General medical care
o Provide daily clinical follow-up for patients hospitalized for hand surgery.
o Adjust medication regimens based on changes in the patient’s overall health.

b) Administrative and medico-legal follow-up
o Draft necessary medical notes, prescriptions, certificates, and reports.
o Draft discharge letters or interim reports.
c) Training and Continuing Professional Development
o Stay informed about recommendations and best practices in hand surgery.
o Participate in continuing education activities, department meetings, and quality improvement initiatives.

• Specialist degree in hand surgery/orthopedic surgery (DIU/DU in hand surgery) and DIU/DU certification in microsurgery.
• Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team.
• Strong listening, communication, and care coordination skills.

Description of the Operating Room and Surgery Department
The operating room complex includes:
• 8 operating rooms equipped with the latest technology,
• a 12-bed recovery room,
• a dedicated pediatric area (3 beds).
Hospitalizations are organized by specialty, and outpatient appointments are held at several locations, including Peltzer, where the majority of hand surgery consultations take place.
Since CHR Verviers is a full-service regional hospital, hand surgery procedures are part of a coordinated care pathway that includes:
• On-site medical imaging,
• Specialized anesthesia,
• Postoperative rehabilitation provided by partner physical therapists.

Terms of employment
• Self-employed status
• Contract type: One-year fixed-term contract, to be reevaluated thereafter.
• Schedule: Half-day fixed-rate—8/10 days negotiable.
• Participation in on-call duty
• Half-day pay.
• Vacation: based on the department’s schedule
