Mission
Push the boundaries within our operating rooms or post-anesthesia care unit
With more than 50 high-tech operating rooms where over 53,000 surgical procedures are performed, UZ Leuven’s operating complex is the largest in Belgium. The operating rooms are equipped with the latest technology and are organized into clusters based on different medical specialties (cardiac surgery, abdominal surgery, orthopedics, etc.).
In addition to the standard operating complex, we also have operating rooms specifically designed for patients undergoing outpatient surgery.
The PAZA, or post-anesthesia care unit, serves as the first recovery room. In addition to receiving and preparing patients, the PAZA is primarily responsible for ensuring that patients wake up gradually under the close supervision of specialized physicians and nurses, supported by specialized equipment.
If patients need to stay in the hospital for only one night after their procedure, they are admitted to the one-night stay unit. The one-night stay unit is a hospitalization ward closely linked to the operating suite and postoperative care. Although patients who have undergone orthopedic procedures make up a large portion of the patient population in the one-night stay unit, you will also encounter patients with other medical conditions there.
Currently, there are job openings in the following departments:
Operating Room: We are always looking for motivated nurses within the various units
A Unit: Urology and Gynecology
B Unit: Orthopedics
C/D Unit: Neurosurgery, Ear, Nose, and Throat, Spine, Plastic Surgery, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
E Unit: Cardiac Surgery, Vascular Surgery
F-Core: abdominal surgery, oncological surgery, abdominal transplant surgery
G-Core: trauma surgery, thoracic surgery
One-Night Stay: Patients stay in this ward for one night following a procedure or treatment by one of the various medical departments affiliated with the ward.
It is helpful to indicate your preference(s) in advance. That way, we can initiate a targeted selection process and make a suitable offer.
If you do not have any clear preferences or cannot immediately find a job opening that appeals to you, please submit an unsolicited application as a nurse. Drawing on our knowledge and expertise, we will carefully help you find the position and department that best suits you.
Unless explicitly stated by the department, these are always full-time, permanent contracts. If you prefer to work part-time, this is always negotiable.
You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule and on weekends (every other weekend in the operating room; every fourth weekend in the PAZA).
