Mission

Background and Project:

Clinique Saint-Luc Bouge (Namur) is seeking a Chief of the Emergency Department to lead an ambitious, transformative, and resolutely forward-looking medical project. This is not about taking over an established department, but about building something new: the project is largely yet to be defined, and we are looking for someone who can provide a vision and a roadmap for it.
You will be supported by the Executive Committee in ambitious projects to transform and improve the department—including an architectural redesign of the department. This is a rare opportunity to shape a department for the long term, with the necessary resources and institutional support.

A strategic role at the heart of the institution:

The emergency department is a major gateway to the hospital. How they operate directly influences the quality of care, the patient experience, the smooth flow of patient care pathways, the institution’s reputation, and collaboration with all medical-technical and specialized departments.
In this context, Clinique Saint-Luc Bouge seeks to develop a well-structured, attractive, collaborative, high-performing emergency department that is fully integrated into the institution’s care pathways.
The future department head will play a central role in this evolution.

Your responsibilities:

- Define and champion the medical and organizational vision of the emergency department.
- Lead, unite, and develop the medical team.
- Ensure close and structured collaboration with the nursing department—an area we consider essential to the department’s success.
- Actively contribute to the consistency of institutional care pathways through collaboration with other department heads.
- Enhance the department’s appeal to medical professionals.
- Ensure the quality, safety, and efficiency of patient care.
- Improve patient flow, reduce wait times for care, and enhance coordination with inpatient services.
- Promote a positive, high-performing, collaborative, and solution-oriented team culture.
- Participate in the recruitment, onboarding, and retention of the department’s physicians.
- Develop relevant performance metrics: workload, turnaround times, quality, safety, complaints, satisfaction, and interdepartmental collaboration.
- Co-lead the department’s transformation initiatives alongside the Medical Director.

Desired Qualifications

- A physician holding the title of Specialist in Emergency Medicine (SMU), as defined by the ministerial decree of February 14, 2005. (Essential requirement.)
- An open, fair, and collaborative managerial approach, with strong leadership, communication, and interdisciplinary skills.
- Management experience is an asset, though not required.
- A master’s degree in clinical training is also an asset, in line with the institution’s educational mission.
- Involvement in an accreditation process is also valued.
- An interest in quality, patient safety, and continuous improvement.
- An ability to engage in dialogue and collaborate with other department heads.
- Competence and ambition, driven by a desire to build and transform.
- A willingness to actively participate in an institutional initiative.
- An ability to make decisions, set priorities, and take on responsibilities.

What We Offer

- At least 8/10 of working hours must be spent within the hospital.
- Self-employed status, with a financial package set to increase in 2026.
- Administrative time dedicated to the role.
- Partnership with the Medical Directorate for all department projects.
- Several permanent physician positions are also available within the department. You therefore have the option of bringing colleagues with you.
